My 5 month hiatus

Hey guys,

Sorry I have not posted on my blog in a long time, it’s been 5 months to be exact.

I used to do all of my blogging on my ipad, but it completely broke and shut down in September so I haven’t been able to blog at all since then.

But, good news. I am going to start blogging as regularly as I can on my laptop.

Though, I’m currently in my final year of college and I’m working really hard and I’m really busy because I’m trying to get a good grade at the end of this year so that I can go to university in September. So, I apologise if there are any lengthy breaks between me blogging or if I seem to disappear but I have a lot of assignments to do over the next couple of months.

Update on my reading: So far this year I have read Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Aszkabhan, Harry potter and the Goblet of Fire and I’m currently reading Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix. This is my third time reading the Harry Potter series and I am thoroughly enjoying it, Harry potter is literally my life and I could read it a billion times if I had enough time read it.  Does anyone else enjoy re-reading the Harry Potter series? or is there a book series that you could read over and over again? and What is your favourite Harry Potter book -mine is Goblet of Fire.

Thank you for taking the time to read my blog.

Anxiety: a poem by me.

So, I read poetry often but I never really write my own poetry. Not since school. But I’ve read a few poems lately and it’s inspired me to have a go at writing my own. It’s not very good, I do apologise, it’s my first attempt at poetry since I left high school four years ago.

Anxiety.

A sticky film that covers my body, invisible to the human eye.

A sticky glue that sows my lips shut, unable to speak the words I desperately need to utter, muffled sounds that are incomprehensible are all I can muster.

Avoiding eye contact when paying at the till,

A shaking hand when giving money to the bus driver.

The film engulfs my throat and lungs, I can’t breathe, I want to drop to my knees and crawl away, is there a table near by?

During my daily activities the film is but a whisper in my ear, an army of cockroaches marching on my skin.

I ignore it. But it doesn’t go away. It never goes away.

Thank you for reading my poem. Any advice/constructive criticism is appreciated. Though, as I said this is my first attempt at poetry and a subject that is very personal to me so please be kind. I currently have the poetry bug so I’m happy to read any poems that people have written.

Have a glorious day. Today is my day off college so I’m spending it reading Game of thrones a song of ice and fire, reading poetry, writing notes for my personal statement for university and watching Harry Potter and the deathly Hallows part 1 and 2. What will you be spending your day doing?

Harry Potter merch I want.

So, sorry with the bombardment of posts tonight. I have a lot of college assignments due in over the next couple of weeks so I thought I’d take advantage of my quiet night tonight and post a few posts to get ahead.

I would like SOOOO much Harry potter merchandise, Harry Potter is my life. But these are a few of the things that I would really really currently like to own.

imageI would like this Gryffindor cushion because I am a  Gryffindor and I really like cushions and being comfy. It’s £19.95 from the Harry Potter studio tour shop in London and it’s available on the website.  When I get a job or if I get money for Christmas I’m hoping to buy this.

imageI would likeHermione Grangerswand because Hermione is my favourite and I’d really love an authentic wand from the studio tour shop.

image I would really like a chocolate frog either when I visit the Harry Potter studio tour or from the website because what’s more iconic than the chocolate frog.

imageI would also like a pack of Bertie botts every flavour beans because I’ve heard some outrageous stories about the flavours. I would like the buy them when I go visit the studio.

imageFor my birthday or Christmas I would really like the Hermione Granger artefact box because Hermione is my favourite. Inside you get a copy of Hermiones timetable, a felix felicis bottle, a Yule ball ornament and poster and a hogwarts express ticket. I’m going to get this from a shop near where I live, they sell it for £26.

imageI would also really like this light up triwizard cup because the cup is the symbol/iconic item in the goblet of fire which is my favourite book and film.

imageI would absolutely love a quill because it would make me feel more like a wizard than I already do, I would be able to write my coursework and in my blogging notebook in style. It would be awesome.

imageI would also really like this Hermione granger wand pen and book mark set because again Hermione is my favourite and you can never have too many pens and bookmarks. Right?

imageI would really like this charm bracelet because I think it’s super cute and the three charms on it mean a lot. The platform 93/4 charm means a lot because it’s that platform that introduces you to hogwarts and the wizard img world, Harry’s first real glimpse of true magic is when he runs through the wall and appears on the other side. The snitch means a lot because it reminds you of when Harry first caught the snitch, one of the youngest seekers ever, from that moment you knew Harry was destined for greatness, finally, the deathly Hallows is the beginning and the end. This symbol means a lot, I want a tattoo of it on my wrist.

image

I would really like the original textbook type book of Fantastic beasts and where to find them because I love fantastic beasts. I prefer the old cover compared to the new bright green one because the old one just looks more authentic and textbook like.

image

I would also really like these wand make up brushes because they look awesome and always wear eyeshadow and eyeliner so they’re perfect for me. You can buy them on amazon and eBay for under £10.

imageThe final merch I would like right now is this collectible quidditch set I just think it looks really cute, awesome, authentic and it would look great on display in my bedroom. You can buy it from waterstones, Amazon and eBay.

What Harry Potter merch would you love to own? What awesome Harry Potter merch do you already own? Thank you for reading this post 🙂

Books I currently want

Bit of a different post but one thing I LOVE in life is writing lists of books I want to buy, putting books I want to buy in my waterstones basket but not proceeding to check out because I’m poor and talking about books that I want to buy.

So here are the six main books that I want to own right now…

imageThe first book I would like to own right now is tower of dawn by Sarah J Maas. This is because Maas is my favourite author. I pre-ordered all of the ACOWAR books but unfortunately I couldn’t pre-order TOD because I’m a college student and I’m currently poor. But it is my birthday next month so I’m hoping to get some money so I can buy it. Has anyone read it so far?

imageThe second book I would like to own right now is Siege and storm book 2 in the Grisha series by Leigh bardugo. I bought the first book in the series a few months ago and I read it in like 6 hours, I was completely engrossed and captivated by the plot. So I hope to own this soon so that I can continue the story line. Has anyone read it?

imageThe third book I would like to buy right now is the calling by Kelley Armstrong which is the second book in the darkness rising series. I became a huge fan of Armstrong once I read the darkest powers series a couple of years ago, it’s still one of my favourite book series’. I bought the first book of the darkness rising series a couple of months ago and was once again engrossed in the characters that Armstrong had created. I can’t wait to own and finish reading the rest of this series.

imageThe fourth book I would like to own right now is the Raven boys. This is my best friends favourite book series so I’ve heard good things about it. I know there are gay characters in it which is great! We need more gay characters!!! And it has Ravens which is AMAZING!! I love Ravens, I want a tattoo of a Raven on my arm, I might call my daughter if I have one Raven and I want a pet Raven called Edgar (poetry/literature joke).

imageThe fith book that I would like to own right now is Alice by Christina Henry. I have never read anything by this author but one of my biggest loves since childhood is Alice in wonderland. I have Alice in wonderland everything (and I’m 19);pajamas, books, bookmarks, tshirts, necklaces etc I love re-tellingly/re-written Alice in wonderland stories, especially when they are darker and more gothic. I just love scary/psychological retellings of Alice in wonderland and fairy tale stories so this book sounds really good.

imageThe sixth book I would currently like to own is 13 reasons why by Jay Asher. I would like to own this book because I have heard both good and bad things about the tv show but want to be able to watch it myself so I can form my own opinion on it. But, as usual I would like to read the book before I watch the show. I always think it’s important to read the book of something first.

So, there are many hundreds more books I would like to own right now.  But if I had a choice of choosing six right now these are the six I’d choose. What books would you choose to own right now if you could?

My most hated book characters

when you read as many books as I have you find there are a lot of characters you love, some you’re indifferent about and some you absolutely hate. There are many many book characters from books that I’ve read over the years that I Loathe. But here are 5 of the main characters that I can think of right now that I hate with a passion.

In no particular order…

1) Dolores Umbridge from Harry Potter and the order of the Phoenix

Dolores seems nice on the outside with her floral brooches, pink attire and office full of cute cat plates. But she is very very annoying and EVIL. I hate her because of her cruel and unruly way of punishing the students, the way she bans pretty much everything including the Weasley twins selling their wizard wheezes merch and the way she infiltrates hogwarts and takes over dumbledors post as the head of the school.

2) Zoey Redbird from the house of night book series.

I actually enjoyed reading this book series, but I absolutely hate the main character Zoey *spoilers*. Right, I could rant about her all day. I hate her because she strings males along, so in the beginning she has a human boyfriend, then a vampire boyfriend, then she is seeing them both at the same time, then she has sex with a teacher, then She starts to fancy some blonde guy and wants to sleep with him, then there’s some weird immortal guy that she’s been in love with for centuries. It’s just confusing and annoying and I hate her. Some authors make you ship the main character with a bunch of people at once but Zoey isn’t one of these characters, she’s just slutty.

3) Annabeth from the Percy Jackson series.

i can’t really explain why I don’t like her, I mean, she’s on the good side, she’s a “good guy”. I just think she’s annoying and Percy should be with Nico instead.

4) Joffrey Boratheon from a game of thrones a song of ice and fire.

Well, he’s spoilt, he’s a brat, he’s annoying, it brings him pleasure to hurt others. If you read the book or watch the first two series of game of thrones you’ll understand why I hate him. He is my most hated character in the history of characters.

5) clary Fairchild from the mortal instruments

I hate Clary because she makes the daftest decisions, she could just explain things to the people around her but instead she stays silent which pisses off the people around her, she’s whiny, she strings Simon along, she strings have along, she dosent say how she feels and she goes off on her own gets herself in trouble so other people have to risk their lives trying to save her.

So, there are my most hated book characters. Do you agree with me? Do you disagree with me? Which book characters do you hate? I’d love to hear opinions and discuss this…

Reading habits book tag

Hey guys!!

so, I haven’t been tagged in this but I’ve read a few done by different people and I thought it was quite interesting so I thought I’d give it a go.

Just some facts about me and my reading habits…

Do you have a certain place at home for reading?

I mostly read while laid in bed surrounded by cushions and pillows and snuggled up under my duvet and blankets.

Bookmark or dog ear?

Bookmark definitely. I look after my books and like them in pristine condition, when I see a book with dog eared pages and cracked spines it makes me cringe.

Do you eat or drink whilst reading?

I drink cups of tea, coffee and sometimes on a night or when I’m ill hot chocolate. I don’t really eat while reading…except sometimes I snack on cookies.

Do you have music or tv on while reading?

Nope, complete silence.

Do you read one book at a time or a few?

typically, one book at a time. If I read more than that I get confused. But sometimes I’ll start a book, not like it, read something else, then go back to the book I didn’t like.

Do you read just at home or everywhere?

EVERYWHERE. I read at home, at college, at my boyfriends house, at friends houses, on the bus to college, in doctors waiting rooms…anywhere I can when I get time.

Read out loud or silently in your head?

Silently in my head. I get muddled and miss words and don’t absorb the words as much if I read out loud.

Do you write in your books?

NOPE!!! They are my precious children. I am very OCD and protective of my books.

Audio, Ebook or paperback?

Paperback, always. Though I do one day want a kindle so I’m not in anyway against ebooks.

What are you reading habits? I’d love to hear them 🙂

Back to college.

Hey guys!!

Sorry ive not been posting much lately. I went back to college three weeks ago so I’ve been super super busy. I study Alevel health and social care because at one point I did want to be a nurse but now, I’ve looked into the career and nursing degrees a bit more and I’ve decided I want to study creative writing and English at university and maybe one day become an English teacher. Though the dream is to become an author.

I’ll try and post as much and as often as I can but I am already drowning in assignments and haven’t finished a book in over a month *cry* as well as doing my assignments I will also be writing my personal statement, filling out my UCAS application and trying to find a part time job…so please pray for me.

Once I have got into a routine with my college work I will start to post (hopefully) once a week or more. Please stick around! Thank you anyone who reads my posts, thank you for the likes and comments.

Harry Potter/fantastic beasts Merch collection

Hey guys!!

Sorry ive not been posting in a while, I will do a post at some point today to explain why I haven’t been posting much and why I have been so absent. Again, sincere apologies.

But, today I finally worked out how to put photos into a post not just the featured image at the top (I know I’m slow at technology). This has inspired me to do a post about something I LOVE. So I am part of many fandoms but the longest and biggest fandom I have been a part of is the Harry Potter fandom and now the fantastic beasts fandom.  I have been collecting Harry Potter merch a long long time but unfortunately I can’t show you all of it because some of it is under my bed, in the attic and in random hard to get areas of my room.

I hope you enjoy looking at my collection. I will try and put as many of the prices as I can remember. Feel free to ask any questions. I would love to hear what in my collection you like and what potter/beasts merch you own too. Now in no particular order…

imageThis is a fantastic beasts and where to find them door hanger. It is meant to look like a beast looking out of the lock on Newt Scamanders briefcase. I bought this from Primark for £2.00 and I bought it to take to university with me when I move in to halls.

imageI have the classic set of the Harry Potter books. I have no idea whether they are first editions or not but I’ve had them since being a child. That’s why the covers are a little scuffed from age and love. I really like the art on the classic collection, I like the fact that they are mostly hardback, though from Goblet of Fire onwards they are hard to carry around in a bag with you to read daily because of how big they are. Though I love this set I really want a set of the new cover books for Christmas so I can take them to university with me next year.

imageThese are my other Harry Potter books. The tales of Beedle the Bard and the 20th edition Gryffindor Harry Potter and the philosophers stone. My dad bought me the Beedle the Bard for £3.99 I think, in a pre-owned DVD and book store called “that’s entertainment”. I bought the 20th edition philosophers stone as a “going back to college” present from myself to myself for £6.99 from the waterstones website. I bought it because I am a Gryffindor, I love Harry Potter and I just thought it looked awesome!!

imageI do own all of the Harry Potter DVD’s but some of them are at my boyfriends house, they were various prices and I got them each when they came out so I’ve had most of them a long long time. My dad bought me fantastic beast when it came out and I’m not sure how much it was. All of my HP DVD’s are two disk special editions with lots of extra features, and I can honestly say I’ve watched all the special features.

imageThis is a book about the behind the scenes making of fantastic beasts, the costume design, prop design and brining the creatures to life. I wanted this book after I saw the fantastic beasts film because I liked the design of sets etc within the movie. This book is £14.99 at Waterstones but I bought it at a boot sale for £3…BARGAIN!!!

image

This is a grey Gryffindor jumper I bought from Primark with my birthday money last year, I think it was £6-£8. I like it because it’s not bright red like most Gryffindor clothing so you can show your house pride but in a more subtle way.

image.

These are my Harry Potter wands. They were handmade from actual sticks/logs from trees by a craftsman that has a stall at my local market. They were £5 each which is really good because though the wands from the Harry Potter studios are better quality they are £25 more expensive. On the left I have Dumbledor’s elder wand, in the middle I have lucius Malfoy ‘s wand and on the right I have Voldemorts wand. Though I really want to buy hermiones wand from the Harry Potter studio.

imageThis is a Harry Potter mug that I bought from Primark for £3. I bought it to take to university with me.

imageI have loads more Harry Potter socks but some of them are in the wash/some are in my wardrobe. But these are the ones I can find, they are all from primark. Some I’ve bought myself, some were Christmas presents. The only ones I know the price of for sure are the knee high platform 93/4 socks which were £2.50

imageThis is a Gryffindor pin badge. It cost £3.99 and I bought it from forbidden planet in Cambridge. It’s currently still in its packaging because I don’t know what to do with it. I can’t decided whether to pin it on my denim jacket or on my red checkered rucksack or somewhere else. Any suggestions welcome 🙂

imageThis is my Harry Potter blanket. I bought it from primark for £6. It’s very very fluffy and so soft and a good size (single bed) and I love it.

image

This is my hardback Cursed child book. I pre-ordered it from WHSmith before it was released and it was £9.99. I read it the day that I got it. I thought it was okay but I didn’t really like it as part of the Harry Potter story. That’s my personal opinion, I have nothing against people that love it. I just don’t think it was needed, I think you got enough closure at the end of the deathly Hallows. I’d like to one day see the play because I think it’d be better than the book.

image

This is a front page of the newspaper in the fantastic beasts movie in a photo frame. I bought this from primark for £6 to take to university with me to decorate my room in my halls with. I just really liked it and thought it looked pretty cool. I love newspapers and maps as wall decorations.

image

This is a Harry Potter Jersey jacket I bought from Primark for £6-£8. It is a very vribrant red but due to the style of jacket it is you can get away with it. It has a really nice hogwarts crest on the chest and really nice buttons. It’s great in all weathers really, though it’s obviously not waterproof. The only downfall with this jacket is that it dosent have a hood, I personally prefer jackets with hoods because I live in England and it’s always raining.

So, that is my Harry Potter/fantastic beasts merch collection. Thank you for reading, sorry it was so long. What items of my collection do you like? What is your favourite Harry Potter/fantastic beasts merch? What HP/FB merch would you like yo own in the future? I might make a blog post in a few weeks about my HP merch wish list.

The unpopular opinion book tag :)

So, I haven’t been tagged to do this but I’ve read a few and thought it was a fun and interesting idea so I decided to give it a go

1) A popular book or book series that everyone loves but you don’t like?

The fault in our stars by John Green. When it “became famous” everyone was talking about how amazing it was and how sad it was. I may be heartless, but I read it and wasn’t even sad! It might have been because I didn’t feel that connection to the characters that I get with other books. But once I’d finished reading it I felt let down because it didn’t prove to be as heartbreaking and amazing as people were making it out to be.

2) A popular book or book series that people hate but you love?

Breaking dawn by Stepheni Meyer. When twilight first came out it seemed that everyone loved it-most of my friends did. But as we got older my friends and many people I knew fell out of love with it and thought that it was just “sad” to like it. Regardless of this, breaking dawn has always been one of my favourite and most read books. I don’t like Bella or Edward, but I still like the book because I love the wolf parts when it’s written from Jacobs point of view and I love Meyers description and imagination of the other vampires and the types of powers they have.

3) An otp that you don’t like?

Annabeth and Percy in the Percy Jackson series by Rick Riordan. I just think Annabeth is really annoying. I’m a Percy and Nico shipper.

4) A popular book genre that you hardly reach for?

ROMANCE!! I’m mainly a fantasy/sci-fi reader so I don’t mind fantasy/sci-fi with romance, in fact I think stories are better with an element of romance. But I’m not a massive fan of just romance on its own.

5) A popular beloved character that you do not like?

Harry Potter. I love the Harry Potter series, Harry Potter is my life, I love all the other characters, I feel sorry for Harry…but I just think he’s kind of annoying and a bit showing-off ish.

6) A popular author that you can’t seem to get in to?

Rainbow Rowell. I have read fangirl and Eleanor & Park and I didn’t really like either book. Eleanor and park had such a messed up ending I didn’t know what was going on and fangirl wasn’t a fulfilling book to me.

7) A popular book series that you have no interest in reading?

Fifty shades of grey. I don’t feel I need to explain why.

8) what film adaption do you prefer compared to the book?

The neverending story. I watched the film as a child, it was one of my favourites. Then I read the book by Michael Ende a few years later and I prefer the film because the film stops three quarters of the way through the book but it’s a much more rounded ending whereas the book waffles on and makes the main character out to be a douche.

Thank you for reading. If anyone reading this has an opposing view I’d love to hear reasons and explanations and I’m always happy to debate and discuss 😊

Geek girl review

My next review is a review of the book Geek Girl written by Holly Smale. This isn’t my usual kind of read because it isn’t a fantasy book and I don’t think I have ever read anything by this author before.

This books is about a girl called Harriet Manners who is a “geek”, she likes to learn as many random facts as she can and hides under furniture when she gets scared. This and the way she looks make people at school bully her and brand her a geek. But one day she gets scouted by a modelling agent and decides modelling might be her only way out of her geeky ways…

I think this book is a very easy read and can be read in a couple of hours depending on your reading pace. It’s not a book i would choose again to read but I think if you have a spare couple of hours and just want to block the world out this is a good book. I was in fact, to my surprise, engrossed in the story and couldn’t stop turning the page because I wanted to know what happened to Harriet in the end. All in all a good read.

Thank you for reading my review, keep reading xx
